VET TEC 2.0 Is Changing How Veterans Break Into Tech, Here’s Who Can Apply

Veterans Get a New Route Into Technology
New opportunities are being provided by the VET TEC 2.0 program, which is the second version of the Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses of the Department of Veterans Affairs program, for veterans and transitioning service members interested in careers in technology.
The VET TEC 2.0 program will provide training for participants to develop skills in careers in technology without pursuing a four-year degree program. The training will assist veterans in developing careers in cybersecurity, software development, data analysis, cloud computing and any other technology career.
Program Builds on Successful Pilot
The initial VET TEC program started in 2019, and the program registered more than 20,000 veterans prior to the expiration of the funding. Subsequently, a new VET TEC was approved by Congress up to 2027. Thus, it was called the VET TEC 2.0.
The improved VET TEC program deals with different technologies such as computer programming, computer software, data processing, information sciences, media applications, and artificial intelligence.
Who Can Apply?
Eligibility criteria have been set by the VA. The applicant must either be a veteran that has been discharged under other than dishonorable terms or within 180 days of separating from the military. The applicant should have served at least three years on active-duty status and must not have attained 62 years of age upon the approval of his/her application.
The number of participants enrolled in the program has been limited to 4,000 paid participants in a fiscal year.
Tuition and Housing Support
The VET TEC 2.0 program is more than just training. Qualified participants may be eligible for reimbursement of tuition and fees paid to recognized training providers, monthly stipends for housing while in training, and help with textbooks and supplies.
This financial assistance might make training full time feasible for those veterans who will need to work besides their studies otherwise.
An Important Change for GI Bill Users
One of the differences between this new program and the former program is on education benefits that are already available. Any veteran who has remaining entitlement under other programs like the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the Montgomery GI Bill can use one month of the entitlement per month of training.
Even veterans who have exhausted their benefits can participate. They do not need to have remaining eligibility.
A Path Into Cleared Technology Jobs
In cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud engineering, software development, data analysis, and IT support are still essential fields. Veterans who have security clearances could benefit more from gaining additional technical skills alongside their military experience.
Applications for VET TEC 2.0 are open at the moment; however, slots in the program are limited. Veterans interested in pursuing a career in technology could find VET TEC 2.0 beneficial since they could receive special training and financial assistance.
